Apple launch Verizon iPhone in Q3 2010
Apple is indeed delivering a Verizon iPhone in the third quarter of 2010, claims research firm OTR Global. The firm cites sources who say Apple is working on a “worldmode” iPhone compatible with Verizon’s CDMA network. (Apple’s current iPhones only work on the GSM standard, which AT&T’s network is part of.)
A new report citing sources in the Taiwan handset supply chain says Apple has contracted to produce a UMTS/CDMA hybrid iPhone due in the third quarter of next year that will enable the company to sell a single global handset to all carriers, and specifically to Verizon Wireless in the US — appleinsider reported.
By using a new hybrid chip developed by Qualcom the next iPhone would be able to use GSM/UMTS and CDMA networks. This would allow to have an unique model distributed by both AT&T and Verizon. Such a diversification would actually make a lot of sense as Apple is already doing so in many countries. more at appadvice
